🌍 On the pitch
🇧🇪 Belgium 5–1 New Zealand — Auntie Elena over Grandpa Tom. Belgium tops Group G; New Zealand goes home with a single point.
🇫🇷 France 4–1 Norway — the Cats, already through, played a game that didn't matter and won it anyway (unlike some, ahem, USA). The first recorded instance of these cats exceeding an obligation. Top of Group I.
👋 A new participant
The People's World Cup welcomes Lever. Axolotl. Mexico — of course, and not as a courtesy.
Axolotls are endemic to Xochimilco and appear on the Mexican fifty-peso note. Lever is, in the only sense this office can certify, legal tender. The rest of you represent your countries. Lever takes it a step further.

Lever debuts at fourteen on the football, which ties the Cats for the best on-pitch record in the competition. The two finest group campaigns in the People's World Cup thus belong to a salamander and some cats; the leading humans trail by two. Lever also arrives pre-crowned, with a "LEVER THE KING" video and assorted fanart, all gifted from South Korea. Why the player who just reclaimed first place is also funding the competition is not for this office to say.

League business is suspended this afternoon for Vergennes Pride. Two participants have temporarily renounced their national allegiances to form a breakaway side — Team Rainbow — fielding Miles (formerly South Korea) and Kit (formerly Türkiye). Temporary tattoos have been applied in quantities exceeding available skin. The photographic evidence is extensive and will be entered into the record. The Commissioner rules the defection valid, the cause unimpeachable, and the scoring, for today, beside the point. We will be checking out the afterparty at Big Heart Social, which the commissioner hears is the coolest place to be and very happening.
